DISCIPLINE  POLICY

All students have the right to feel safe and secure at Louise White School.  Students, staff, and parents/guardians share responsibility for this environment.  Students will contribute to a peaceful school environment through the demonstration of good citizenship.  Students will support a learning environment that is conducive to optimal learning through consistent, appropriate behavior.  Students will demonstrate a high degree of respect for themselves, the other students and the staff of Louise White School by adhering to state, district, and building guidelines.  Students will demonstrate responsibility by cooperating with the staff and other students.

I.                   Louise White Community Expectations

The staff and students of Louise White School have established the following expectations for all members of the school community:

LOUISE PEOPLE ARE KIND                            LOUISE PEOPLE WORK HARD

 LOUISE PEOPLE SHOW RESPECT FOR OTHERS, FOR PROPERTY, AND FOR THEMSELVES

In addition, Louise White School, in conjunction with the Batavia Public School District, encourages the objectives of the Character Counts program, which includes the following six character pillars:

·        Respect – to feel or show honor for someone or something, to look up to, and to show concern or consideration for someone or something.

·        Citizenship – to do your share to help your family and to make your community a better place to live.  Good citizens are good neighbors.  They cooperate with others, obey laws and rules, respect authority and protect the environment.

·        Caring – to be kind, helpful, and generous to everyone.  Caring people are not selfish; they are considerate because they always think how their conduct affects others.  They have compassion and empathy because they care how others feel and they are charitable and forgiving.  They do good deeds without the expectation of reward.

·        Trustworthiness – to be honest, to tell the truth, to keep promises, and to be loyal so people can trust you.  Trustworthy people have integrity and the moral courage to do the right thing and stand up for their beliefs even when it is hard to do so.

·        Fairness – to agree to and to follow rules or standards.  Being fair means listening to both sides of the story and to treat everyone equally.

·        Responsibility – to do what you are suppose to do.  Responsible people do not give up easily, especially when others are counting on them.  They are accountable for consequences of their choices; they do not blame others for their mistakes.

II.                   Behavior Outcomes

  When students follow the school community expectations, they help build a positive school climate and increase the chance for life-long learning. When a student is not meeting the school community expectations, natural and logical consequences; productive discussion among student and teacher, and possibly administrator and/or parent/guardian; and/or restitution will be used as the first step to correct the behavior. Certain behaviors result in more severe consequences.

These offenses include, but are not limited to the following:

·        behavior that repeatedly disrupts the learning environment;

·        behavior that is dangerous to the student him/herself, other students, members of the Louise White staff, or visitors to the school;

·        profanity or inappropriate, offensive, or vulgar language or behavior;

·        behavior that demonstrates harassment;
