LWS Newsflash - February 23, 2024
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
As you all may have heard by now, I am retiring at the end of this school year. The district began a search for my replacemnt prior to winter break and they concluded the process in time to bring our recommendation to the Board of Education on Tuesday of this week. The district is pleased to announce that Michael Wall has been selected as the next Principal of Louise White School. If you haven’t heard yet, Mike is a past student of Louise White School, and his parents still live in the neighborhood! He is ready to hit the ground running, and you will hear a LOT more from him in the coming weeks. You can read more HERE.
I will be working with Mr. Wall in the coming months to make the transition as smooth as possible.
REMINDER – there is no school on Friday, March 1 due to a Teacher Institute Day.
CUP OF KINDNESS
5th graders at Louise White School have been working hard on spreading kindness throughout our community. Limestone, in downtown Batavia, has graciously teamed with the 5th graders and will be handing out student created sleeves when you purchase a drink. Students have worked hard on these special sleeves and have a range of creative designs. Please join us on February 27th to help spread kindness one cup at a time 🙂
SPRING MUSICAL
It is time once again to prepare for the Spring Musical. This is an opportunity for any and all third, fourth, and fifth grade students to learn, rehearse and perform in a musical. Our show this year is called “Just Sing!” written by John Jacobson. The show is a combination of original and pop hits, highlighting friendship, kindness and greatness! The musical is optional and open to any third, fourth or fifth grader that would like to be a part of the fun.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Read up, Book Battlers! Our first round of Battles are coming up soon! Teams are locked in and team members should have decided by now who is reading which books. Team members should each have their books read by the first Battle, which will take place on Wednesday, February 28!
Battle Schedule:

- Round 1: Wednesday, February 28
- Round 2: Wednesday, March 6
- Round 3: Wednesday, March 13
- Tie-Breaker Round (if needed): Thursday, March 14
- LWS Champions vs. LWS Teachers (just for fun!): Friday, March 15
- District Battle: Monday, March 18 @ 7 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library (1st place team from each school)

BEDTIME AND BOOKS
Kindergartners and First Graders, you are invited! We will be hosting a Bedtime and Books event in the LRC on Tuesday, March 5th from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Come in your pajamas and enjoy bedtime stories and a bedtime snack of milk and cookies. The first 40 students to register will receive a special gift! (Note: Siblings of kindergartners and first graders are welcome to attend but are not eligible for the free gift, sorry!) AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURES
Last Call! Sign up to lead an After School Adventure! We are still short a lot of volunteers. We hope to be able to hold our After School Adventures program on Monday, March 11th and Wednesday, March 13th. The kids love these activities and we need your help to make this event happen! We still need a few more parents to lead classes and more volunteers to assist some who have already signed up. All of the information about the program was in our last NEWSLETTER.
Please SIGN UP by Monday, February 26 if you can help out so that we can offer this opportunity to our students.
YEARBOOK
Attention 5th Grade Parents/Guardians – We want to see your child’s baby pictures. Please send a picture of your 5th grader as a baby/toddler and we will include it in the 2023/2024 Yearbook. Please send your picture by February 25th to louisewhitepics@gmail.com and please include First and Last Name.
If you would like to purchase a copy of the 2023/2024 LWS yearbook, you can do so HERE.
If you have already purchased one, you have until April 21st to compose your personal pages if you wish (personal pages are 2 pages that will be printed in just your copy of the yearbook – you can include vacation pictures, family photos, memories).

TRIVIA NIGHT
