LWS Newsflash - October 28, 2022
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Happy Friday! A reminder that we will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31. Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school. Please remember to adhere to the guidelines I shared last week. I also realize I neglected to put in a time for the costume parade in last week’s newsletter. We plan to kick off the parade at approximately 3:05. The weather forecast looks promising, so if it holds we will be parading outside. The route for the parade is marked in red in the picture below. Feel free to line up along the route. Also, if you would like a seat, we will open the gym at 3:00 and you may sit in there on the bleachers.
The parade should take us up until dismissal time. If you are coming to the parade and will be taking your child home with you (they will not be riding a bus) please let your child’s teacher know via email so we make sure they get to the correct place at the end of the day.
TRIVIA NIGHT
Today (Friday, October 28) is the last day to register for our Trivia Night so it is not too late to get a team together and sign up! This year it will be held at the Batavia VFW on Saturday, November 5th from 7:00-10:00. All the details and the registration form can be found HERE.
VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY
LWS is preparing for our annual Veterans Day Assembly that will take place on November 11th, from 9:30 to 10:00 in the LWS gym.
If you have a family member who is/was a veteran and you would like them to appear in our slide show of LWS veterans, please send an electronic copy of the photo to: kate.smith@bps101.net.
Include the veteran’s name and student’s name and how they are related to each other. If you’d like, you may add their military information such as branch, rank, years of service, etc. and Mrs. Smith will be sure they are added. Photos must be received by Wednesday, November 9th in order to be inserted into the slide show. Mrs. Smith has the photos that were in the show last year, so you do not need to resend those.
Also, if you have a veteran in your family who would like to attend the assembly, we would be honored to have them. They will sit in front with the other veterans and the student(s) they are related to. Each veteran will have an opportunity to say their name and the name of the LWS student that invited them. Please email Mr. Zimmer (walter.zimmer@bps101.net) if your veteran will be in attendance so we have enough chairs for everyone!

LWS BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Now that flag football season is over, how about a little basketball? LWS students in 4th or 5th grade are eligible to join our basketball league that begins in mid-November. Just like football, you register for this program through the Batavia Park District. Deadline for sign up is November 8. THIS FLYER has all of the details.
HOLIDAY SHOP (Coming Soon)
LWS PTO will be hosting our first in school holiday shop this December! Students will have a chance to shop for holiday gifts for their families, learn a little about budgeting and money handling, and foster the spirit of giving. Please be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks. We are also looking for volunteers to help run our holiday shop. If interested, please sign up HERE.
